BVB: Royals keep Cougars in check

San Marcos’ boys volleyball team hosted Ventura on Tuesday night and came away with a 25-18, 25-18, 30-28 sweep of the Cougars.

The Royals erased a 24-18 deficit in the third game to secure the sweep.

With regular starter Baker Johnson out with injury, Jake Pighetti stepped in with seven kills. Shane Hauschild piled up 18 kills in the three sets. Both players were in the middle of the Royals game-three rally, with Hauschild providing a key dig and Pighetti finishing off points.

Middle Cole Wenal added four kills, Taylor Mann had five kills, and Chris Newton four. Royals head coach Roger Kuntz also noted the excellent setting by Christian Widmer

San Marcos (17-8, 4-2) hosts Santa Barbara on Thursday.
