Ten: Royals breeze past Cougars

San Marcos’ Peter Jivkov outlasted Ventura’s Jacob Rucker in a hard-fought first round set on Thursday, sending the Royals on their way to a 14-4 Channel League victory.

Jivkov topped Rucker 7-6 with the tiebreaker decided 10-8.

“Petar and Jacob played very high level tennis today,” said Royals head coach Jarrod Bradley. “Jacob won some easy points on his first serve and when he didn’t Petar was devastating with his returns. In the end, Petar pulled it out with a big first serve out wide.”

Jivkov continued on to win all three of his sets.

Luca Ferrari was also 3-0 on the day in singles.

The Royals doubles teams won 8-of-9 sets as the Royals picked up their first Channel League win of the season. The doubles teams were dominating, winning in games 54-15.

“Jake and Owen played together for the first time this season and impressed with their aggressiveness at the net,” Bradley said. “Jack and Travis also moved well and won easy points with the serves and strong net play.”

After a week off for Spring Break, the Royals play again on April 4th.
