Santa Barbara High hosted the Channel League Relays on Friday afternoon, a casual season-opening meet that doesn’t count in the league standings.

The Dons girls placed first and the boys team was fourth.

Kelsey O’Brien, Maddie Trabucco and Sophie Trabucco were on three different winning relay teams. The Dons won four of the seven relays in total. Freshman Kristina Garcia performed well.

San Marcos’ girls team placed second behind Santa Barbara. Coach Chuckie Roth reported that it was the Royals’ best showing in ten years.

The day was highlighted by a victory in the 4×50 backstroke by Frances Kuesis, Anika Avelar, Grace Piznat, and Maddy Kriz.

Blair Rodriguez posted a best time of one minute and three seconds in the 50 Free.
