Female winner Joy Moats celebrates with Men’s winner Okwaro Raura at the San Diego Half Marathon

Santa Barbara’s Joy Moats was victorious at the San Diego Half-Marathon last Sunday.

Moats, 37, finished the women’s race in 1:18:59, besting a field of 3,121 other female runners who went the distance, according to the marathon website. She was followed by Tori Tyler at 1:21:30 who has also trained in Santa Barbara in the past.

Okwaro Raura won the men’s race in 1:10.39.

Moats, who set a personal best for the half-marathon, ran a smart race culminating in a final 5k time of 17:54 to complete the 13.1 mile race through scenic areas of San Diego. The course starts under the Omni Sky Bridge on Tony Gwynn Drive and finishes in the historic Gaslamp District.

Moats is training for the Chicago Marathon in October.
