Santa Barbara High’s “Gold Team” won Monday’s Coyote Invitational

Santa Barbara High cleared 19 other teams on Monday to win the Coyote Golf Invitational at Calabasas Country Club.

The Dons posted a four-man score of 307 to beat out host Calabasas by eight strokes. Moorpark finished in third with a team score of 319.

Individually, Moorpark’s Thomas Lin bested the field by shooting a five-under 67. Chaminade’s Justin de los Santos and Santa Barbara’s Jonathan Collins tied for second at 73.

James Morton was close behind at 75 and Brandon Crane turned in a 76 for Santa Barbara. Ryan Stoll’s 83 rounded out the team score.

The unusual scoring format did not allow the teams to throw out their highest score like normal.

“I was really happy that the team played great today, even when I didn’t have my best. They picked me up big time,” Stoll said.

The Dons brought a “Gold Team” and a “Green Team” to the tournament. The Green foursome totaled 369.
