Ten: Ekola, Kohansamad pace Bishop past Carpinteria

Freshman Spencer Ekola didn’t lose a game in sweeping three sets, leading the Bishop Diego boys tennis team to an 11-7 win over Carpinteria on Tuesday.

Ekola and Andre Kohansamad each went 3-0 while the Bishop No. 1 doubles team of Jonny Ford and Matt Hammond also went undefeated on the day. Ford-Hammond outlasted Carpinteria’s top duo of Jonathan Cleek-Collin Nathanson 7-6 (4).

Cleek-Nathanson went 2-1 as did the team of Bryan Taira-Paul Cortez and Ricky Zermeno-David Harms for the Warriors.

“Give Bishop Diego credit, they were a little more athletic than us and it made a difference,” said Carpinteria coach Charles Bryant.
