MBK: Moorpark controls boards in WSC win

Moorpark took advantage on the backboards in the second half of Saturday night’s WSC North men’s basketball season finale to defeat visiting SBCC 77-68.

Trace Yager scored 14 points with seven rebounds for the Vaqueros (4-18, 0-10), who led 37-34 at the half. SBCC shot 46 percent but was outrebounded 43-28 by the Raiders (7-17, 1-9).

Jalani Davis and Robert Cid added 13 points apiece for Santa Barbara and Michael Hansen had 10.

“We showed great execution in the first half,” said SBCC coach Morris Hodges. “The big thing in the second half was our inability to hold them to one shot. They got a lot of offensive putbacks in the last four minutes.”

The Vaqueros trailed 65-60 with three minutes to go.

“Our guys played hard throughout the year,” Hodges added. “I can’t fault our effort or character.”
