Inaugural ‘Bring Back the Mile’ tour announced

Santa Barbara’s Ryan Lamppa has always thought that the mile distance deserves more credit. Once a showcase in American sports, the mile has gradually slipped from prominence in running competitions throughout the country.

It’s that belief that led to Lamppa hatching a nationwide race circuit called “Bring Back the Mile” in 2013.

Santa Barbara’s annual State Street Mile will be one of thirteen events. Other events include the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix in Boston, MA, the Grandma’s Minnesota Mile in Duluth, and the Footloose Freedom Mile in Mammoth Lakes.

The team behind ‘Bring Back the Mile’ just recently announced its inaugural 2013 events, which started February 2nd in Massachusetts and North Carolina. The next event is February 16th in New York.

The State Street Mile in Santa Barbara is scheduled for June 2nd.

The tour will conclude in Santa Barbara with the Evening with a Miler Gala. The event will showcase the iconic distance and introduce the first Mile Legend honoree.
