San Marcos’ girls water polo team edged Dos Pueblos 8-7 on Wednesday in a Channel League game that leaves the two teams tied for second place.
It’s the first win for San Marcos over Dos Pueblos since at least the 2006-07 season.
“This was one of the biggest games this season for the Royals, and capping it off with a win had every player with full hearts and huge smiles,” said Royals head coach Chuckie Roth.
Hannah Koper, Halie Johnson and Kate Coski all had two goals each. Megan Bergthold and Hailey Gellert added one each.
In the cage, Jenna Phreaner blocked 10 shots and recorded three steals.
The Royals are 12-12 and 4-3 in league play. A coin flip will determine whether San Marcos or Dos Pueblos will receive the No. 2 Channel League seed when CIF brackets are determined.
The Royals complete their regular season schedule today with a match at home against Ventura.
