Riley Heiduk scored three goals for San Marcos’ girls water polo team on Friday at the SoCal Championships, where the Royals grabbed a 7-5 victory over Montebello.
San Marcos was forced to rally from four goals down after spotting Montebello a 4-0 lead. The Royals then held them scoreless for most of the second period and all of the third to gain their first lead at 5-4.
Jenna Phreaner stopped nine shots in the cage.
Megan Bergthold and Kate Coski rounded out the scoring with two goals each.
The Royals lost their second-round match on Thursday before rebounding with Friday’s win. They move on to play familiar crosstown league opponent Dos Pueblos at 10 a.m. for the chance to play in the ninth-place match.
