Dos Pueblos denied Santa Barbara a co-Channel League championship on Thursday as the Chargers and Dons battled to a scoreless draw at Scott O’Leary Stadium.

The result leaves the Dons with a 6-1-1 record and 19 points. Ventura wins the league title for the third straight season with a 7-1 record and 21 points.

“Our defense played phenomenal tonight. It seemed like they were under seige the whole game,” said Chargers head coach Matt York.

Dos Pueblos will apply for an at-large CIF bid after finishing its league season with a 2-4-2 record. Buena defeated San Marcos on Thursday to leapfrog the Chargers for third place with nine points.

York credited seniors Forbes Bainou, Robert Bertha and Omar Montalvo for their leadership throughout the season.

“If this is how it has to go out, it was a heck of a ride,” York said.
