WRS: Lampe just misses placing at Battle for the Belt

Dos Pueblos wrestler Chad Lampe finished one victory short of placing at the Battle for the Belt tournament at Temecula Valley High over the weekend.

Lampe lost a tense match with Dustin Kirk of Elsinore, 3-2 in a consolation quarterfinal at 120 pounds.

Cameron Cox, wrestling at 113 pounds, won three consolation matches before being eliminated.

Lampe won his first two matches of the tournament before losing to Arnulfo Olea of Exeter. The Charger senior bounced back with a 4-3 decision over Avila-Johnson of Bloomington and a pin against Riko Quintana.

After edging out Lampe, Kirk won a 12-0 decision in the next round. He finished fifth.

Dos Pueblos finished 57th in the 72-team tournament that featured some of the best wrestling programs in the state.
