San Marcos took on San Diego area perennial powerhouse The Bishops School in the nightcap of a girls water polo doubleheader on Thursday and dropped a 20-9 decision at the Royals’ pool.
Freshman Hailey Gellert scored three goals to lead the San Marcos offense. Junior Halie Johnson added a pair of goals.
“Halie really stepped up and played well today,” San Marcos coach Chuckie Roth said. “She created a lot of opportunities for our entire team. Johnson scored three goals in a 13-5 loss to Santa Barbara in the early game.
Roth said the Royals continue to make progress. “We are making huge strides as a team. I am very proud of this group.
On the day, sophomore Megan Bergthold scored in each game, sophomore Riley Heiduk had three goals and senior Hannah Koper scored a goal and had five steals.
Junior goalie Kelly Purling had 4 saves and 2 steals.
San Marcos (3-9, 1-2 in Channel League) is back in action on Tuesday against Royal in a non-league game.
