Hope Grant scored four of her team-high six goals in the first half of Wednesday’s 14-2 Tri-Valley League victory for Carpinteria over Oaks Christian.
Grant finished with six goals while Maddie Brooks had four for the Warriors (6-6, 1-0).
“We have not played a game in the last 21 days and it showed on the offensive side of our game with a slow start,” reported Carpinteria head coach Bryan Swarm. “Oaks Christian’s goalie is very good, in my opinion the best in the league, but we were able to get a little offense going in the 2nd half to start pulling away.”
Vanessa Vega stopped nine shots defending the cage for Carpinteria, which played strong defense according to Swarm. Carpinteria did not allow the Lions to score in the first half, taking a 5-0 lead at halftime.
