Freshman Kate Coski scored four goals in her varsity debut, helping San Marcos defeat Dana Hills 10-5 in the opening game of the Villa Park girls water polo tournament.
The Royals opened up a 5-1 lead after the first quarter. Defensively, goalie Jenna Phreaner made 15 saves.
San Marcos was beaten by San Clemente, 14-8, in its second tournament game. The Royals fell behind 5-1 in the first period. They pulled to 7-5 by halftime but couldn’t keep pace in the second half.
Sophomore Megan Bergthold was the leading goal scorer with 3 goals.
The Royals play Martin Luther King High on Friday at 5 o’clock at Villa Park High.
