Pacifica sticks six on No. 1 Cate soccer

Cate School’s top-ranked boys soccer team hit its first speed bump of the season on Friday, falling to Pacifica 6-2.

The Rams, ranked No. 1 in Division 6, scored first but then gave up five unanswered to the Tritons, an unranked team in Division 3.

Cate sophomore Geoffrey Acheampong recorded a goal in the first half. Freshman Joel Serugo scored Cate’s second goal on a bicycle kick in the second half.

“We ran into a very good team today,” reported Cate head coach Peter Mack. “They made us pay for our mistakes in the midfield and any lapses of judgment in the back. That, coupled with the fact that we just weren’t in synch made for a long afternoon. But even though we got outplayed, we didn’t get outworked.”

Cate (1-1) plays again on Wednesday at home against Santa Ynez.
