Dos Pueblos gave second-ranked Foothill a battle before the visiting Knights pulled away in the second half for a 14-9 non-league girls water polo win at the Elings Aquatics Center on Saturday morning.
Dos Pueblos played good defense and trailed just 5-4 at halftime. But with a roster of six players who have made NCAA Division 1 commitments, Foothill took charge of the game in the second half.
Despite the loss, DP coach Chris Parrish was proud of his team’s play, especially in the first half.
“It was a good outing for us,” he said. “I thought we played a fantastic first half. We tried to stay with them, we’re just not as deep as they are. They’re No. 2 in (CIF) Division 1 for a reason, and they kind of pulled away from us.”
Stanford-bound Jamie Neushul led Dos Pueblos with four goals, while Jordan Williams added three goals on five shots. Whitney Steidl and Ari St. Oegger also scored for the Chargers, who lost by one goal to top-ranked Corona del Mar on Friday night.
“All in all, it was a good outing,” Parrish said of the weekend. “We played a good first half today and a good second half against Corona del Mar. If we put two good halves together, we’re going to be in good shape.”
