San Marcos split its final two games at the Villa Park girls water polo tournament, beating Palos Verdes 10-7 and falling to Edison 10-9 on Saturday.
Megan Bergthold and Riley Heiduk each scored three goals in the win over Palos Verdes and goalie Jenna Phreaner blocked 10 shots.
Against Edison, the Royals were up 6-4 at halftime, but Edison went on a four-goal run in the third period to take the lead. San Marcos missed a two-meter shot that would have tied the score in the last two minutes.
“That game proved to be one of our best of the weekend,” said San Marcos coach Chuckie Roth. “The kids played well.”
Heiduk had four goals, Bergthold three and Kate Coski two goals. Phreaner stopped 10 shots.
Roth was impressed by the play of Heiduk
“She really showed great tenacity and desire, scoring seven goals on the day. She had 12 goals over the weekend,” said the coach of the sophomore.
