Santa Barbara’s last-second chance to tie came up empty and the Dons fell 5-4 in their season opener to visiting Foothill on Friday.
It was a matchup between the No. 2 and 3 teams in CIF’s Southern Section Division 1.
Maddie Trabuco had a tremendous game defending the cage for the Dons, recording 11 saves including a stop on a penalty shot and one on a 1v1 situation.
The Dons were hurt by their inability to convert 6-on-5s, scoring just once on eight ejections.
Santa Barbara plays again on Saturday against No. 1 Corona del Mar.
