Jamie Neushul scored eight goals in Dos Pueblos’ tournament-opening victory on Friday in Orange County, which was followed by a 13-6 loss to No. 1 Corona del Mar.
Neushul’s eight goals helped the Chargers defeat Rosary 12-9 to start the Holiday Cup. The Chargers were then beaten by the top-ranked Sea Queens for the second time this season in the quarterfinals.
Dos Pueblos had battled Corona del Mar to an 11-10 loss in DP’s home opener. This time, Friday’s matches were played in the Sea Queens’ pool.
“We were down 8-4 at half but really couddn’t get anything going in the second half,” said Chargers head coach Chris Parrish.
While CDM advances to play Foothill in the Saturday’s semifinals, Dos Pueblos will play Laguna Beach for a chance to play for fifth place.
Shannon Cleary recorded a team-high three goals in the quarterfinal match with CDM. Cleary also drew five ejections. Jordan Williams scored twice and Ari St. Oegger once.
Goaltender Britten Vilander stopped five shots and recorded a team-high three assists in the win against Rosary.
