Santa Barbara High’s girls water polo team defeated Newport Harbor on Saturday to reach the championship match of the Holiday Cup.
One upset would be it for the Dons as Foothill triumphed 8-4 in the title match to win the tournament.
The Dons, ranked No. 5 in Division 1, beat the No. 3 Sailors 7-6 on Saturday morning. No. 2 Foothill was the top team in the tournament, however, winning the championship by defeating top-ranked Corona del Mar in the semis followed by Santa Barbara.
Kelsey O’Brien scored four times against Newport Harbor, including the game winner that came with four minutes remaining in the fourth period. O’Brien was held to one goal against Foothill.
Maddie Trabucco recorded 12 saves in the Newport game and her teammates in front of her collected six field blocks.
Rocio Fesembeck had two goals, an assist and drew three ejections against Foothill.
