A 12-2 run by Santa Barbara High’s girls water polo team that started in the first quarter and extended into the fourth was costly for Mater Dei as the Dons finished with a 14-8 victory in Thursday’s non-league matchup.
Santa Barbara fell behind 2-0 in the opening period but had earned a 12-4 lead entering the final quarter.
Kelsey O’Brien collected six goals, six steals and four assists to lead the Dons.
Rocio Fesembeck drew three ejections and scored three times. Jessica Gafney and Sophie Trabucco added two goals each.
In the cage, Maddie Trabucco stopped 16 shots.
Santa Barbara (3-3) begins play at the Newport Harbor Holiday Cup on Friday.
