After spotting Edison a two goal lead in the first quarter, Dos Pueblos’ girls water polo team turned up the defensive pressure and won 11-5 on Saturday in the Chargers’ pool.
Down 2-0, the Chargers came back to win the second quarter 4-1 to take a 4-3 lead at halftime. After the first quarter, Dos Pueblos outscored Edison 11-3.
“We played a good defensive game,” said Chargers head coach Chris Parrish.
Of DP’s 10 steals, Shannon Cleary led the team with three. Cleary also recorded a team-high three goals, matched by Jamie Neushul. Neushul added four assists.
Kellie St. Oegger and Whitney Steidl scored twice for DP, which also got a goal from Jordan Williams.
Britten Vilander blocked nine shots defending the cage and also recorded a pair of steals.
Dos Pueblos plays again at the Holiday Cup in Newport Beach.
