Carpinteria can’t make up early deficit

Marcus Hutchinson scored 18 points, but Carpinteria’s boys basketball team couldn’t overcome an early 10-point deficit and fell to Heritage Christian 79-64 at the Fillmore Tournament on Saturday.

“We got down by 10 points after the first quarter,” Carpinteria coach Johnny Ward. said. “Turnovers and their physicality inside hurt us. After the first quarter it was a close, even game; at one point we were able to go on a run and cut the lead to four but then they managed to push it back up.”

Ian Craddock added 15 points and Kevyn Crocker played well off the bench, said Ward.

Hutchinson was named to the all-tournament team.
