Rio Mesa’s Martel Tyler scored 23 points to pace the Spartans on Saturday

Martel Tyler’s 23 points lifted Rio Mesa’s boys basketball team to a 67-49 victory over Bishop Diego on Saturday at the Jim Bashore Tournament.

The Spartans will play in Monday’s semifinals against an opponent to be determined later today.

The Spartans, playing without Anthony Teart, also got nine points from Reggie Dixon and 12 from Erick Zambrano.

Bishop Diego’s Caleb Richey scored 25 points, matching his own single-game tournament high from the day before. Thomas Lash added 11 points for the Cardinals.
