Williams leads Gauchos to exhibition victory over La Verne

Alan Williams’ 17 points and 7 rebounds helped carry UCSB’s men’s basketball team to a 74-50 season-opening exhibition victory at the Thunderdome on Thursday night.

The new-look Gauchos featured eight players who were either not on the roster last season or redshirted.

Freshman Michael Bryson finishes with a dunk for two of his seven points.

Freshman Taryn Brown led the Gauchos in minutes with 25. Williams did his damage in just 18 minutes. No other Gaucho was in double-digit scoring as Lewis Thomas was the second-leading scorer with nine points.

La Verne’s Jourdan?Simmonds paced the Division 3 team with 17 points.

UCSB’s regular season opener is next Friday at LSU. The Gauchos have their home opener on November 17 against The Master’s.
