San Marcos fell behind early and couldn’t recover, and dropped a 14-7 decision at Murrieta Valley in a CIF Division 2 boys water polo first-round playoff game on Thursday.
The Royals trailed 5-2 after the first period and 9-3 at halftime.
“We got off to slow start but fought back to 9-7 in the third quarter,” San Marcos coach Jeff Ashton said. “We then made a couple of mistakes that they were able to capitalize on and kind of ran out of steam.”
Shane Hauschild scored three goals, George Kuesis tallied two and Emerson Pizzinat and Keyvan Golizadeh added one a piece for the Royals (23-8).
