Top-seeded Agoura fended off a third-quarter rally from Dos Pueblos on Saturday afternoon, pushing away the host Chargers 11-4 in the quarterfinals of the Division 2 CIF-ss Ford Championships for boys water polo.
Agoura led 6-1 at halftime but Dos Pueblos came out in the third and put the pressure on. DP cut the lead to 6-3 but the continuous stubbornness of Agoura goalie?Dominick?Beaudine kept DP from making it even closer.
Beaudine recorded 14 saves in the match, including six in the second quarter.
“How do you take into account a goalie like that? That goalie just stuffed us. It took luck at some points to get stuff in,” said Dos Pueblos head coach Chris Parrish.
“We generated some really good looks, drew some ejections, 5-meter, I mean, we made some stuff happen but he just brought us down.”
A Beaudine highlight came early in the fourth quarter with DP threatening to pull within three goals again. ?Beaudine stopped DP’s Blake Parrish in a one-on-one situation. The?momentum-crushing block allowed?Agoura to regain control and close out the match.
Dos Pueblos did not score again.
Agoura’s Nico Vilches tallied a game-high five goals for the two-time defending CIF champions.
Dos Pueblos senior Grant Schroeder scored the two third-quarter goals for a team-high. Schroeder is the only senior who Dos Pueblos will lose that played big minutes this year.
Scott Mahan also scored the Dos Pueblos on a nice redirect in the fourth quarter. Jake Griffin scored DP’s only first-half goal.
Dos Pueblos finishes its season with a 15-15 record.
