PRE-GAME INTRO: The top two seeds in Division 2 of the CIF-ss Ford Championships meet today in Irvine.
No. 1 Agoura vs. No. 2 Santa Barbara. Both teams have held those rankings in the division since the preseason. The teams never met during the regular season until now.
FOURTH QUARTER
Game Over – Agoura takes CIF title, the school’s third straight, with a 7-4 decision over Santa Barbara.
1:35 – The writing is on the wall for Santa Barbara. Agoura looks to have this match won. The Agoura cheering section senses the victory is in their hands. Score remains 7-3 Agoura.
5:00 – Magyari finds the Santa Barbara cage for the fifth time, giving the Chargers their four-goal lead back.
THIRD QUARTER
0:15 – Mason Periera’s goal from the right side of the cage cuts into Agoura’s lead going into the final period.
3:43 – Chris Gardhouse’s first goal of the afternoon comes on a rebound, giving Agoura its biggest lead of the match at 6-2.
SECOND QUARTER
Halftime – Agoura built a 5-2 lead in the first half in large part thanks to the lethal shooting of Szabolcs Magyari. His four goals have kept the Chargers, who have not trailed in this game, in control during the first half.
1:50 – The Dons can’t stop Magyari as the senior driver scores again, his fourth ngoal of the first half. Agoura leads 5-2.
2:10 – Nate Hunter scores for Santa Barbara in a man-up situation, cutting Agoura’s lead back to 2 at 4-2.
2:43 – Magyari finds another opening to score his third goal, each from outside. This last came with the shot clock winding down from a deep 7-meters.
3:36 – Nico Vilches gives Agoura a 3-1 lead as the Chargers have been able to score from the perimeter so far today.
4:10 – Agoura responds on its next possession as Magyari scores his second goal from outside. Agoura regains the lead at 2-1
4:46 – The Dons even the match at 1-1 on a 5-meter penalty shot by Evan Robertson. Cristian Bridley drew the penalty at 2-meters.
7:00 – A fast-paced but low-scoring first quarter ends with Agoura holding a 1-0 lead on the strength of a goal by Szabolcs Magyari.
FIRST QUARTER
3:06 – Agoura takes the game’s first lead, 1-0.
4:00 – Neither team has been able to score yet. The Dons’ pressing defense has limited Agoura to outside shots while Agoura’s Dominick Beaudine has made a nice stop of a SB shot from 2-meters.
7:00 – Agoura’s crowd outnumbers the Dons supporters 2-to-1 as the Chargers look for their third-straight CIF championship. The Dons are looking for their sixth CIF title, but first since 2006.
