Harris, Grimaldo dominate for SBCC

The Brandie and Sandy Show was back in action on Friday afternoon as Brandie Harris and Sandy Grimaldo combined for all four scores in SBCC’s 4-2 women’s soccer victory over Hancock at Santa Maria High.

Harris and Grimaldo scored two goals each for the 22nd-ranked Vaqueros (9-3-4, 5-1-2 WSC North). Harris leads the team with 13 goals and 29 points and Grimaldo is close behind with 11 goals and 27 points.

Harris, a freshman from Dos Pueblos High, opened the scoring in the 17th minute, taking a pass from Sarah Atmajoana and burying the ball in the bottom right corner.

Hancock (5-10-2, 3-6-0) scored twice in a 30-second span of the 33rd minute to take a 2-1 lead.

Alexandra Abbott delivered a through ball and Grimaldo tied the game in the 43rd minute, just before halftime. In the 57th minute, Grimaldo scored after a scramble in the box to make it 3-2.

Linn Viklund delivered a long pass to set up Harris’ final tally, a one-touch shot from 20 yards in the 75th minute.

“We had a young squad today with just one sophomore in the lineup,” said coach John Sisterson. “We gave up two quick goals in the first half, then did a nice job of regrouping and regaining the lead.

“We need to win our last two games for a shot at the playoffs.”

The Vaqueros are ranked 15th in Southern Cal and the top 16 make the playoffs. SBCC finishes the regular season with a pair of road games — Tuesday at Moorpark and Friday at Cuesta.
