Gonzalez, Johnson carry Lions to season-opening victory

Lacey Gonzalez poured in 18 points and dished out five assists in Providence Hall’s season-opening 53-34 non-league victory over Grace Brethren on Thursday.

Olivia Johnson’s 16 points and eight rebounds gave the Lions another strong contribution without injured Sydney Hedges and Lizzy Beebe (left in 1st quarter) in the lineup.

Providence Hall created separation in the second quarter by outscoring Grace 19-3 in the second frame.

Grace Brethren’s Ali Malmawski led the Lancers in scoring with 17 points.

Providence Hall (1-0) plays again next Wednesday vs. Villanova Prep in the first game of Bishop Diego’s Birdcage Classic.
