Dons tennis wins seventh straight CIF match

Santa Barbara High’s girls tennis team defeated Santa Margarita 13-5 on Tuesday to win its seventh straight CIF match dating back to last year.

The result advances the Dons into the Division 1 quarterfinals on Monday against second-seeded Dana Hills. The Dons won the Division 2 title last season and moved up to Division 1 this season.

Santa Barbara proved to be far mightier than host Santa Margarita. The Dons staked a 11-1 lead through two rounds.

By the third round it was mostly reserves for the Dons as coach Steve Geremia used 17 players. Only top singles player Summer Garrison played the whole match winning all three sets she contended. Santa Barbara’s starting lineup was a combined 12-1.
