Dons, Chargers both at home to start CIF


 

Santa Barbara High and Dos Pueblos will both be hosting first-round CIF contests on Friday, with the Channel League champion Dons taking on Cathedral and Culver City making the trip to face the Chargers in Western Divisional play.

The Dons and Chargers met for the Channel League championship last Friday and Santa Barbara earned the league’s No. 1 seed by virtue of a 24-17 win.

Santa Barbara makes its first postseason appearance since 2008 with a record of 8-2. Cathedral, which finished behind Chaminade and Serra in the Mission League, also holds a record of 8-2.

Dos Pueblos (7-3) will host Culver City (6-4). The Centaurs finished third in the Ocean League behind Santa Monica and Inglewood.

A victory for the Chargers would set up a potential second-round matchup with the division’s top-ranked team in Lompoc.

The winner of the Santa Barbara vs. Cathedral game moves on the play the winner between Camarillo and Harvard-Westlake.

In the Northwest Division, undefeated Bishop Diego received the No. 1 seed, but the Cardinals will have to play on the road due to sanctions handed down by the CIF-SS against the football program on Sunday. Bishop will play at South Torrance, an at-large entry from the Pioneer League.
