CIF volleyball playoffs: Royals, Warriors, Owls at home for openers



San Marcos will host its first playoff match as a league champion in 10 years, and cross town rivals Cate and Carpinteria drew each other when the CIF-Southern Section girls volleyball playoff pairings were announced on Saturday.

San Marcos, which won the Channel League title for the first time since 2002, will play Long Beach Millikan in the first round of the 1-AA Division playoffs on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Meanwhile, Santa Barbara and Dos Pueblos face tough road assignments in the same division. The Dons play at No. 3 seed and Sunset League champion Los Alamitos (29-3) while the Chargers visit Moore League No. 2, Lakewood (20-8).

In Division 4-A, Cate plays at Carpinteria in the first round, with the winner possibly drawing top-seeded Pacific Christian. Cate (6-6) was the Condor League co-champion while Carpinteria (9-4) finished second in the Frontier League.

Laguna Blanca, the Condor League’s No. 1 team drew a first-round home match against Santa Clara of Oxnard (7-8), the Frontier League’s No. 3 team.

The second round will be play on Thursday and the quarterfinals on Saturday.
