SBCC’s Skjonsby, Ramirez qualify for SoCal Regional

SBCC freshman Charlotte Skjonsby shot 84 on a tough Kern River GC course on Monday in Bakersfield and finished fourth in the women’s golf individual conference standings. She earned first-team All-WSC honors and a trip to the Southern Cal Regional on Nov. 5-6 at San Luis Rey Downs GC in Bonsall near San Diego.

Teammate Jackie Ramirez shot 89 and also qualified for the So Cal Regional. Glendale won WSC No. 9 with 327 strokes, followed by Canyons (335) and SBCC (365). Glendale (35-1 record) and Canyons (28-8) both advanced to the regional.

Santa Barbara was third in the WSC standings at 14-22.

Pattraporn Silawanna of Glendale and Kristin Grimes of Canyons were co-medalists at 80. It was the first time all season that no player shot in the 70s.

“This may have been the toughest course we played,“ said SBCC coach Chuck Melendez. “I like the way we played today, especially Kendall (DeKreek, who shot 96). We showed great effort with a nearly all-freshman team.“
