SB County Super Seven Football Rankings

Presidio Sports will release the Santa Barbara County Super Seven for prep football each Monday throughout the fall season. It is a way for you to see how our County teams stack up against each other and their opponents on a week-to-week basis throughout the season.

The rankings are not based on a vote, but determined by considering a combination of results, strength of schedule, common opponents, momentum, and a variety of other factors.

This set of rankings follows Week Eight games. Find past sets of rankings HERE. Other rankings just released include the Southern Section’s CIF Polls and the LA Times’ Southland Top-25.

SANTA BARBARA COUNTY SUPER SEVEN (10/22/2012)

1. Lompoc Braves (8-0, 4-0)

PREVIOUS GAME:?Lompoc 56, Santa Ynez 7

NEXT GAME:?at Nipomo (1-7, 1-3), Friday, 7 p.m.

NOTES:?Barring catastrophe, the Braves are on their way to a 10-0 regular season and another Los Padres League title. Lompoc has outscored its opponents 321-55 on the season. In LPL competition, it’s 196-24.

2.?Dos Pueblos Chargers (6-2, 2-0)

PREVIOUS GAME: Bye

NEXT GAME:?vs. Buena (5-4, 2-1), at Scott O’Leary Stadium, Friday, 7 p.m.

NOTES:?Dos Pueblos is the only undefeated team left in the Channel League and plays its last two league contests at home. The Chargers moved up to a season-high ranking (No. 6) in the Western Division poll released on Monday.

3.?St. Joseph Knights (6-2, 4-1)

PREVIOUS GAME:??Atascadero 28,?St. Joseph 24

NEXT GAME: at?Pioneer Valley Panthers (2-6, 0-4), Friday, 7 p.m.

NOTES: ?The Knights’ six-game win streak was snapped in a game that the Knights had won. Up 24-7 in the fourth quarter, St. Joseph let the bottom fall out and lost 28-24. Take away that horrible 12-minute stretch, and St. Joseph has still been one of the top teams in the county this year. St. Joseph can asure themselves a piece of the Pac-7 League championship with a bounce-back win on Friday.

4. Bishop Diego Cardinals (8-0, 3-0)

PREVIOUS GAME:?Bishop Diego 55, Santa Paula 7

NEXT GAME:??vs. Nordhoff (8-0, 2-0), at La Playa Stadium, Saturday, 7:30 p.m.

NOTES:??The Cardinals won on the road at Oak Park with surprising ease. Up next is the game everyone’s been waiting for: No. 2 Bishop Diego vs. No. 1 Nordhoff on Saturday at La Playa Stadium in Santa Barbara. Bishop’s offense has continued to cause damage, having scored 39 or more points in every game this season but one.

5.?Santa Barbara Dons?(6-2, 1-1)

PREVIOUS GAME:?Santa Barbara 35, San Marcos 14

NEXT GAME:?vs. Ventura (5-3, 1-1), 7 p.m., Friday

NOTES:?The Dons recorded a 35-14 victory in The Big Game by playing a strong second half. Three-year starting quarterback Shawn Ramos went 3-0 vs San Marcos. Santa Barbara can keep alive its chances of a Channel League championship with a win on Friday against Ventura.

6.?Carpinteria Warriors (4-4, 0-2)

PREVIOUS GAME: Nordhoff 49, Carpinteria 28

NEXT GAME: vs. Santa Paula (2-6), 0-3), ?Friday, 7:30 p.m.

NOTES:?The Warriors were beating Nordhoff on Friday in the second half but ended up falling to the Northwest Division’s top-ranked team. The Warriors have lost two in a row but each loss came from the Division’s top-two teams, both of which happen to be in the Tri-Valley League.

7.?Righetti Warriors (2-7, 1-4)

PREVIOUS GAME:?Arroyo Grande 46, Righetti 34

NEXT GAME:?Bye

NOTES:?The Warriors’ record isn’t pretty but Righetti has been competitive in every loss but one while playing a tough schedule.
