IN-GAME UPDATES: Dos Pueblos vs. Buena Football


 

PRE-GAME INTRO: Buena travels to Dos Pueblos for Friday night’s Channel League matchup that has the Chargers defending their first-place position in the standings. Dos Pueblos (2-0) is coming off a bye while Buena (2-1) suffered its first league loss last week against Ventura.

It’s homecoming at Dos Pueblos, which hasn’t played in Goleta since September 21. The Chargers are 2-1 at Scott O’Leary Stadium this season.

FOURTH QUARTER

GAME OVER – Ben Salazar’s late touchdown gave Buena some life. The Bulldogs moved the ball 71 yards to score. A 2-point conversion failed, but Buena then recovered an onsides kick and advanced the ball deep into Charger territory again. Salazar scores his second touchdown in less than two minutes but it’s just too late. A second onside kick does not work. FINAL SCORE: Dos Pueblos 24, Buena 19.

OUTSIDE SCORE UPDATE – Santa Barbara High leads Ventura 25-10 in the 4th quarter at Peabody Stadium.

4:30 – From the 19-yard line, Dos Pueblos needs four running plays to punch in a touchdown on a 3-yard keeper by quarterback LeShon Bell. Anthony Spiritosanto picked up 16 yards on three carries to move DP to the 3. DP now leads 24-6.

6:30 – DP’s Nico Bornand intercepts a pass and returns it for a touchdown. Fortunately for Buena, an illegal block was called and Dos Pueblos has to try and score from the 19-yard line.

7:46 – Dos Pueblos punts to Buena. The Bulldogs start at their own 27. Corral attempts a deep pass on first down but the ball falls incomplete.

10:47 – Buena puts its first points on the board with a nine-yard touchdown throw from David Corral to Tyler Bolton. A holding penalty on the extra kick causes the point after to miss from 32 yards. Dos Pueblos leads 17-6.

11:45 – David Corral connects with Logan Harasta for a 10-yard catch, putting Buena on Dos Pueblos’ 29-yard line on the first play of the 4th quarter.

THIRD QUARTER

2:00 – After throwing an interception in the endzone, Buena gets the ball back in the redzone and it happens again. Dos Pueblos’ Jake Uyesaka and Jordan Degraffinreid produce interceptions for the Chargers, keeping the shutout intact.

SCORE UPDATE – Santa Barbara Dons lead Ventura Cougars 15-10 at halftime.

HALFTIME – Homecoming Queen about to be crowned. Casey Dwyer announced as Homecoming Queen at DP’s 45th annual homecoming halftime ceremony.

SECOND QUARTER

END OF QUARTER – Buena’s defense forces Dos Pueblos to punt for the first time, taking the last possession of the first half with 50 seconds remaining. Half ends with Chargers up 17-0 on Bulldogs.

3:16 – Nico Bornand easily converts a 40-yard field goal attempt to give Dos Pueblos a 17-0 lead here. Bornand’s kick might have been good from 60 yards. The Chargers were inside Buena’s red zone until a holding penalty pushed them back.

10:25 – Anthony Spiritosanto brings in his second touchdown of the game, this on from 3-yards out, to complete a 49-scoring drive for Dos Pueblos. Chargers lead 14-0.

FIRST QUARTER

END OF QUARTER – Chargers up 7-0 and are threatening to score again with a first down on Buena’s 22 yard line.

2:30 – Dos Pueblos’ defense gets the ball back for its offense. The Chargers move the chains to Buena’s 26 yard line before fumbling it back to Buena. The Bulldogs’ Brandon Barajas recovered the turnover. DP’s defense was there again, forcing a three-and-out.

7:39 – A nice punt return by Jordan Degraffinreid allowed Dos Pueblos to start their first possession on Buena’s 36-yard line. DP ran the ball six times, with the last carry being a 6-yard touchdown for Anthony Spiritosanto. DP leads 7-0

12:00 – Dos Pueblos captains Anthony Spiritosanto, Nico Bornand and Jason Shwartz meet Buena captains Chris Beeson, David Corral and  Brad Burnett at midfield. Buena receives the kick to start tonight’s game.
