Dylan Hathaway’s goal with 20 seconds left in Wednesday’s Tri-Valley League boys water polo match was the difference in Carpinteria’s 8-7 victory over Villanova.
It was the second one-goal result of the season between the two teams, with Carpinteria winning both. The victory puts the Warriors in position to clinch their first CIF berth since 2007 with a victory on Friday at Cate.
Carpinteria (13-8, 5-3) was led in scoring by Alan Chavez’s three goals. Goalkeeper Jacob Pate stopped 17 shots.
