Harris, Robinson provide in Vaquero victory

Freshman Brandie Harris bounced a shot in off the crossbar in the 33rd minute on Friday and the SBCC women’s soccer team made it stand up for a 1-0 WSC North victory at Oxnard.

Samantha Maxwell knocked the ball behind the defense and got the assist on Harris’ team-leading 11th goal of the season.
It was the seventh shutout of the year by keeper Brianna Robinson and the Vaquero defense. SBCC has shutouts in its last two games and three of its last four.

The second-place Vaqueros (8-2-4) are 4-0-2 in conference with key 1st-place battle at Ventura on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.

SBCC didn’t allow a shot on-goal in the first half against a Condor team that it tied 1-1 in the first round of conference play.

Sandy Grimaldo nearly scored in the 57th minute but her shot from 25 yards caromed back off the crossbar.

Linn Viklund played well on defense, according to coach John Sisterson, as did midfielder Sarah Atmajoana, who returned from injury.
