Dos Pueblos senior Bryan Fernandez was victorious at Saturday’s Clovis Invitational

The Dos Pueblos senior won the 5k race in 15 minutes, 9 seconds, improving his time from last year by 1:11 and finishing ahead of the second-place runner by 11 seconds.

“He’s proving that his ranking as the No. 2 runner in the country (according to XCnation.com) is no joke,” DP coach Leslie Wiggins Roth said.

The DP boys finished third overall in a meet that brings together all the best teams from each CIF division. California High and Trabuco Hills were the top two boys teams.

“The competition in this race is arguably better than the California state meet, where we only compete against teams in our division,” Roth said.

The Dos Pueblos girls finished 18th and top runner Addi Zerrenner placed third in 17:41, 36 seconds faster than last year.

For the boys, Max Davis finished in the top 10 with a ninth-place finish (15:41). He was followed by?Andrew McGuan (20th, 15:55, Ben York (16:13) and John Greening (16:26).

Elaine McClure was 57th in the girls race (19:24, also 35 seconds faster), followed by Raquel Fygenson (20:47), Tatianna Schluep (20:52) and KK Amble (21:06).

The Chargers run in the Channel League No. 2 meet on Thursday at Arroyo Verde Park in Ventura.
