Buena’s senior running back Chris Beeson went Beastmode on Santa Barbara High in the two teams’ Channel League opener on Friday, totaling 269 all-purpose yards and two touchdowns in a 27-17 victory for the Bulldogs.
Buena improves to 4-3, 1-0 while the Dons drop to 5-2, 0-1.
Beeson scored Buena’s first two touchdowns to give the Bulldogs a 14-0 lead. The first came on an 84-yard catch-and-run play. The second was a 1-yard effort.
Santa Barbara cut the lead to 14-10 by halftime only to see the Buena’s lead creep back into double digits in the third quarter.
The Bulldogs led 27-10 when the Dons put together a 99-yard drive and scored their second touchdown of the game with 48 seconds remaining.
