Preston Schlagel tossed in five goals and Santa Barbara High’s defense smothered San Marcos en route to a 14-4 Channel League win on Thursday at the Dons’ pool.
Evan Robertson added three goals and Connor McManigal had three assists and a goal for the CIF-SS Division 2 third-ranked Dons.
But it was the defense that told the story.
“Skyler Matthews did a great job on Shane Hauschild,” Santa Barbara coach Mark Walsh said of the defense against the Royals’ top goal-scorer. “Our 6 on 5 defense was great, holding San Marcos to two goals on 11 chances.”
Emerson Pizzinat scored two goals to lead San Marcos.
“It was a disappointing showing for us today,” San Marcos coach Jeff Ashton said. “I thought we played a good first quarter but were unable to keep up with Santa Barbara’s counter attack. I was pleased with the play of Parker Woodward who made some great blocks early in the game to keep us alive. Offensively, Emerson was the one bright point of the day capitalizing on 2 man up situations.”
Santa Barbara (3-0 in Channel League) hosts Servite on Friday.
