SB County Super Seven Football Rankings: Week 5

Presidio Sports will release the Santa Barbara County Super Seven for prep football each Monday throughout the fall season. It is a way for you to see how our County teams stack up against each other and their opponents on a week-to-week basis throughout the season.

The rankings are not based on a vote, but determined by considering a combination of results, strength of schedule, common opponents, momentum, and a variety of other factors.

SANTA BARBARA COUNTY SUPER SEVEN (9/24/2012)

1. Lompoc Braves (5-0)

PREVIOUS GAME: Lompoc 49, Morro Bay 14

NEXT GAME:?at Templeton (4-1), Friday, 7 p.m.

NOTES: The Braves are the new No. 1 team in the Western Division following a 49-14 pounding of Morro Bay in their Los Padres League opener. They are also the last undefeated team in the Division.

2.?Dos Pueblos Chargers (4-1)

PREVIOUS GAME:?Dos Pueblos 42, Rio Mesa 28

NEXT GAME:?at San Juan Hills (5-0), Friday, 7 p.m.

NOTES:?The Chargers scored a season-high 42 points in Friday’s 42-28 victory over Rio Mesa. As a result, Dos Pueblos found itself with a season-high CIF ranking of No. 8 in the Western Division when the rankings were released on Monday.

3.?Santa Barbara Dons?(3-1)

PREVIOUS GAME:?Santa Barbara 24, Centennial Bakersfield 21

NEXT GAME:?at Pacifica (1-3), Friday, 7 p.m.

NOTES:?The Dons found a way to win on Friday, improving to 4-1 on the season. That’s Santa Barbara High’s best start to a season since 2007.

4.?St. Joseph Knights (3-1)

PREVIOUS GAME:??St. Joseph 35, San Luis Obispo 30

NEXT GAME:?at Righetti (1-4), Friday, 7 p.m.

NOTES: ?St. Joseph has won three straight and with another win this Friday, the Knights would likely move into the Northern Division Top-10. St. Joe’s has outscored its opponents 123-65 this season.

5.?Bishop Diego Cardinals (4-0)

PREVIOUS GAME:?Bye Week

NEXT GAME:??vs. Santa Fe Christian (2-2), at La Playa Stadium, Friday, 7:30 p.m.

NOTES:??The Cardinals are the No. 2 team in the Southern Section’s Northwest Division, having averaged over 50 points a game in four straight victories. The No. 1 team in the division also happens to be the Cardinals’ biggest threat to the Tri-Valley League title – Nordhoff. The Cardinals have had two weeks to prepare for Santa Fe Christian, which has outscored its opponents 126-69 this season and represents Bishop’s toughest opponent yet this season.

6.?Carpinteria Warriors (3-2)

PREVIOUS GAME:?Carpinteria 29, Santa Clara 6

NEXT GAME:?vs. Fillmore (4-1), at?Carpinteria Valley Memorial Stadium, Friday, 7:30 p.m.

NOTES:?The Warriors have won three straight road games by winning the turnover battle. Carpinteria benefited from taking away five in its last game, a 29-6 victory over Santa Clara.

7.?Righetti Warriors (1-4)

PREVIOUS GAME:?Paso Robles 27, Righetti 21

NEXT GAME:?vs. St. Joseph (3-1), Friday, 7 p.m.

NOTES:?The Warriors have played arguably the toughest schedule in the county this season. Their losses have come against teams with a combined record of 12-5. Up next is a 3-1 St. Joseph team.
