Parker Woodward stopped a one-on-none shot and Shane Hauschild scored four goals as San Marcos defeated CIF Division 4 fourth-ranked Arroyo Grande 9-7 in a non-league boys water polo game on Thursday.
The win improves the Royals to 3-0.
“I was proud of our team defense and being able to get six guys to contribute offensively,” San Marcos coach Jeff Ashton said. “We were obviously paced by Shane, but the other guys contributed when called upon.”
It was a close game throughout. A key save by Woodward helped the Royals stave off the Eagles.
“Despite only having 6 saves Parker played a great game in goal. One of his saves was a one on nobody that could have really shifted the momentum,” Ashton said. “I thought this was a really big win for us over a quality program.”
