San Marcos makes big improvement against Oxnard

San Marcos improved by nearly 20 strokes in a non-league girls golf match against Oxnard at River Ridge GC on Thursday.

Oxnard won the match 257-264.

“We played Oxnard at our course on Tuesday and lost by a wide margin,” San Marcos coach Shawn Ricci said. “Everyone played better and was able to shave several strokes off their scores. It was a solid team effort.”

Melissa Jewkes led the Royals with a 46.

Ricci lauded the play of sophomore Katie Sorenson.

“She is brand new to golf, is playing well and consistently for us,” Ricci said. “We need all five scores and she is playing well early in the season, especially for someone who has only been playing golf for six or so months.”
