Lakey Peterson’s first-ever victory on the ASP Women’s World Tour will be featured on NBC’s special covering the 2012 Nike U.S. Open of Surfing that airs this Saturday at 10:30 a.m.

The Santa Barbara local won the U.S. Open title in Huntington Beach on August 5. The soon-to-be 18 year old was a rookie on the WCT tour this year and finished in 7th place on the season points list.

The NBC special, hosted by Sal Masekela, also features men’s U.S. Open champion Julian Wilson and a recap from the week-long event that attracted the largest crowd in surfing history.

In addition to champions Peterson and Wilson, Kelly Slater, Gabriel Medina, Stephanie Gilmore, Sally Fitzgibbons and Carissa Moore participated in making the show.

“The Nike US Open is the biggest stage in competitive surfing, and I’m excited a national NBC audience will get to see the world’s best athletes come together to vie for one of the most prestigious titles in the sport,” said Moore, 2011 Women’s World Champion.

The program is part of the Red Bull Signature Series that debuted in 2012 and includes the most progressive and innovative snowboarding, mountain biking, surfing, freestyle motocross, ice cross downhill, skiing and BMX events.
