LOS ANGELES – The sixth-ranked UCSB men’s water polo team defeated No. 20 Concordia, 15-6, on Sunday in a neutral site game played at USC’s McDonald’s Swim Stadium.
Matt Gronow led UCSB with four goals in the victory while Ryan Baliani, Bryce Miller and Nicholas Jordan each tallied a pair.
The Gauchos got off to an early 4-0 lead in the first quarter and did not look back. They out-scored the Eagles, 4-2, in the second to take a commanding 8-2 lead into halftime.
The teams each tallied a pair of goals in the third quarter before UCSB poured in five goals to Concordia’s two in the final stanza to finish the game with a 15-6 win.
UCSB scored nine of its 15 goals on power plays and also converted a penalty shot in the victory.
In goal, all three Gaucho goalkeepers made an appearance. Myles Christian led the team with six saves.
The Gauchos will be back in action next weekend when they host the Southern California Tournament at Campus Pool and Dos Pueblos High School. The two-day tournament will feature the top-16 teams in the nation. For the complete tournament schedule and for ticket information, click here.
