Depleted Laguna Blanca drops season opener

After putting up 42 points by halftime, the Laguna Blanca 8-man football team started losing numbers in the second half and wound up falling to visiting Valley Christian Academy, 69-42, on Saturday in the debut of Shane Lopes as coach of the Owls.

The Owls went down to 12 healthy players in the second half and VCA took advantage. The Lions scored on two long pass plays to erase a 42-36 halftime deficit and never looked back.

Andrew Vignolo had a big game for Laguna Blanca, scoring on a 32-yard interception return and catching a touchdown pass from quarterback Stephen McCaffrey in the first quarter.
