Cate dropped its Tri-Valley League water polo opener to powerful Oaks Christian, 19-4, on Saturday.
Despite the loss, coach Nathan Alldredge found something positive in the game.
“It was a definite improvement from last season’s 22-1 showing, as Cate’s shooting and defense didn’t let up all game despite the score,” he said.
Alldredge said the Lions’ speed, counterattacking, and physical play inside were all too much for the Rams.
“The match was a great measuring stick for Cate at this early point of the season,” Alldredge added.
Zack Allen scored two goals for Cate.
