Gaucho women knocked down by Missouri

COLUMBIA, Mo. – The UC Santa Barbara women’s soccer team completed its season-opening trip to America’s heartland on Sunday, dropping a 2-0 decision at the University of Missouri to fall to 0-2.

The Tigers (2-0) scored the only goal they would need early in the match as Abi Raymer took a feed from Taiwo Adeshigbin and lofted a 16-yard chip shot over Gaucho goalkeeper Makenna Henry. The score came just 31 seconds into the first half.

Missouri doubled the advantage at the 14:58 mark when Alyssa Diggs took a cross from Haley Krentz and one-time a shot into the back of the net.

UCSB had its chances with 10 shots, including five on goal, but goalkeeper McKenzie Sauerwein was up to the challenge saving all five shots. Gaucho sophomore Indiana Mead was the team’s most potent threat with five shots, four of which were on goal. Despite allowing a pair of goals, Henry was solid between the pipes again. For the second straight match the junior recorded eight saves.

UCSB will make its home debut on Friday, Aug. 24 when it hosts the University of Illinois in a 7:00 p.m. match at Meredith Field at Harder Stadium.
